About the Artist

Jennifer VanWasshenova is a contemporary painter based in Pocatello, Idaho. Her work dances with color and expressive brushwork across acrylic, oil, and watercolor. Her practice is rooted in an appreciation for nature and the act of preserving memories through paint.

VanWasshenova’s work includes expressive landscapes and portraiture. She often uses contrasting color temperatures in her underpaintings to create visual energy, depth, and emotional connection.

VanWasshenova holds a master’s degree in Secondary Art Education and was named Idaho Art Educator of the Year in 2017. A lifelong artist, her passion for painting continues to inform both her artistic practice and her work as an educator. She has taught a variety of two-dimensional media and artistic styles at Pocatello High School since 2009. She is also a wife and mother of two creative daughters, whose imaginations continue to inspire her.
